Just got my Sport and noticed the row of buttons were not backlit. Luckily, I found this forum and sure enough, I under hood fuse box slot 37 was empty. I installed the extra 30amp under the cover and that fixed it. Thanks for you guys help. Saved me a dealership trip.
Glad the fix was simple, but THREE TIMES now?

I am truly baffled by how this could happen. It's so oddly specific, too.

You should at least alert your dealerships that this is something they should be checking for as part of their pre-delivery checks, even though it's not on their checklist from Honda, and also to pass it up the line that something is going on. Is it a person who's supposed to be putting in Engine Fuse #37? A robot? A robot that wants to be person? A person disguised as a robot falling asleep?

And at the very least, they owe you that "spare" 30A fuse that you had to put in there! Now you have no backup for BACKUP2!

Hi there! Got about 3000 miles on my 2022 sport... Always thought it was bizarre how those never lit up. Will be checking in the morning to see if I am missing that fuse as well (and I hope I am because I really don't want to bring it into the dealer). Fingers crossed that it is just the missing fuse like others have stated :)

The issue is a missing 30 amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood. If you have the issue with the backlit controls, before you have your dealer replace anything on your brand new car, make sure fuse number 37 is not missing. If it is, there is a spare on the underside of the engine fuse box cover. For whatever reason fuse 37 is incorrectly labeled as a "Backup" and it is not inserted during the PDI.
I missed this post earlier in the thread

So BACKUP2 is a misprint/typo, and is why QA checks skip over it being missing?

Incredible!

Welp the 37 fuse was not in, popped in the extra 30 and now it lights up! Thanks for this thread because you saved me a trip to the dealer. I hate when they touch my car lol

now I'm wondering if the label BACKUP2 is a misprint and a much smaller amperage fuse would work in slot #37

I mean if it's just the backlights for the HVAC knobs... That shouldn't need a whole lot of power

After reading this thread I believe it was posted by Theridia92 I checked ...the fuse box cover had spare fuses...where I circled is where they mentioned...I then checked the area in the panel liked they mentioned ... it's where I pointed the fuse puller at....hope this helped like the original post helped me

Glad I found this thread! I have the LX and the dealership was looking at me as if I was crazy. Said it’s not going to light up cuz it’s a LX model. Low and behold popped in the fuse and it’s up and running. Lights on ! Thank you for the help. Fixed it without some unnecessary mess - sorry to hear about the other guy ..

Hopefully you informed the dealership so they can get it right for the next guy!

So the dealer responded (they are so desperate now)
what do you think I should ask for?
this is there apology:
With the Honda survey out there please remember its like Dan's report card! He is out with covid right now, so I apologize if he hasn't been too responsive. I want to make sure he gets all 10s and yesses with the survey.

Whatever it takes let me know! Whether it is your next 2 oil changes, a couple free details, all weather mats, trunk mat. Please just let me know!

Your satisfaction is most important to us over anything else!

Ask for? To make up for what? A loose fuse box top and a missing fuse? The same stuff half the dealers in the country missed on PDI??

I don't know, how about you don't ask for anything and you give them decent feedback to keep them in the good graces of Honda...?

Hello everyone, thanks for your posts, i have a new civic 2022 with the same problem from Ontario plant, installed the fuse - the problem resolved. I looks like Honda is not aware of a problem or has a problem addressing it.

This is what's in the engine fuse box of my 2022 Civic ST. I have no problems with my HVAC back lights (they work fine).

The fuse diagram is rotated 90 degrees, so the text would be vertical, but the green 30 amp BACKUP2 fuse is exactly where it should be for me

Dude thank a lot for uploading these photos. I got my hatch sport touring day before yesterday and the same night I noticed the climate control buttons didn’t have any lights.
I basically followed your photo instructions, tada!!! They’re backlit now.

This is crazy! I had a 2022 Ex and the lights worked. Now I Have a 2022 Si and the lights didn’t work. Dealer said it’s how the car is optioned and I called out their BS. I back traced illumination wire from the controls and ended up at fuse 37. Wish I would have seen this thread before wasting an hour!!
hopefully Honda catches that there is a problem.

I just bought a new 2022 Civic sports touring last month and my backlis for that one row was out. I checked the fuse box after finding the post & my fuse was missing too. Installed it and now it’s working. Thanks, can’t believe they never figured it out afte over a year.

I picked up a 2023 Hatchback on Wednesday. On my way home from work on Thursday evening is when I found out that the HVAC buttons were not backlit and thought how stupid it was. Saturday morning I found a 30 amp fuse in the tray below the buttons. More confusion. I joined this forum specifically to see if it is an issue or something else. After reading about the fuse missing from the fuse box I plugged in the fuse and all is good! Thanks!

Just wanted to give thanks for this thread. My wife and I bought a 2024 Civic Sport Hatch last night and noticed the backlighting issue on the way home. Found this post this morning and sure enough, the space for the 30 amp fuse was receiving power and ground but with no fuse installed. Installing a spare 30 amp fuse resolved the issue.

Crazy how this is still a factory error ... TWO YEARS in on this generation of Civic!

My thoughts exactly, especially when I realized when this thread started :D. Still, just a minor inconvenience in camparison to things I've seen in the past. I'd hope Honda has a technical service bulletin on this by now to help prevent techs from unnecessarily replacing harnesses, etc.

I have this back light issue on my 2019 EX. I'm going to check it as soon as I get home from work. I pray this is a 2019 issue also.
You've driven the car for five years with the back lighting for the HVAC switches not working? Wow!

What did the dealer have to say about it? I would have to imagine they have a bulletin on it, if it's as simple as this fuse thing in the 11th Gen Civic
