Mine was fixed today. Felt good on the 20 mile trip home. Still wondering how long it will last since some have said the sticky steering came back some time after theirs was repaired. Not sure if it's part of the whole procedure but they did a wheel alignment as well, no charge.

Yeah it’s nice to have the car back to normal. I’m also on alert if it dies it again. I hope it doesn’t.

so what's the best way to describe this issue to the dealer? they are going to say i need an alignment or some BS if i say my steering is sticky. and is there a list of VINs effected? mine was built in late 2023, probably one of the last runs of 2023s.

Mine was mostly at 45-ish mph or above. I told them at around 45 it would take effort to turn the steering wheel at first, sort of like I had to break it loose. I was prepared to take them out on the road while I was driving and let them briefly hold the wheel from the passenger seat and try to turn it and then tell me they don't feel it, but that wasn't necessary because my dealer said "as soon as we started driving, we could feel it."

Just tell it like it is. Sticky or notchy feeling steering. Mine was only at highway speeds at first but now its pretty much all the time.

Just got word from my dealership that my replacement EPS gearbox arrived! Based upon their work schedule, they said I might get my car back by early next week.
Just got the Si back today!! Drives great with the replaced EPS gearbox and hoping that it won’t need this repair again. Total wait time was just over three months to get the car back (the Si sat at the dealership’s service lot the entire time). My service advisor told me they only received two EPS gearboxes, but there’s many other civics awaiting the TSB repair.

Glad to finally have the car back and it definitely needs a car wash and some TLC (detailing and being garaged again).

I'll share my experience with my 2023 Sport Touring. I am getting the sticky / notchy steering issues. It is especially noticeable on speeds above 50 mph on the freeway. One thing that dramatically improved (but did not eliminate) the issue was turning off all of the Lane Assist Features. It seems like the feature that "shakes" the steering when it thinks you are drifting is part of the issue, at least on my car. In doing some tests, letting the Lane Assist detect and "shake" the steering wheel when drifting lanes caused the steering wheel to feel more sticky/notchy for the rest of that drive. I just got back from the dealer, and they will be replacing the EPS Steering Gearbox as part of the recall. Not sure how long it will take for them to get that part.

Be prepared for a lengthy wait time since parts are backordered. Hopefully supply chain issues are being resolved to speed up the delivery ETAs.

I just had this issues fixed recently on my 23 HB sport. I currently have about 13k on the car now. I noticed it around 8k. For me I experienced the sticking sensation at highway speeds while driving straight. I felt tension in the steering wheel when it was mostly in the TDC position and when I would normally make a subtle adjustment to keep the car in the lane. The only thing I can describe the feeling like is that tension you feel when you’re trying to pull apart 2 magnets. I also experienced the same sticking when on a highway that has the subtle bends where the steering wheel is in the 1 or 2 o’clock position it would stick and I’d have to nudge it to get it unstick. I was very annoyed and finally took to Honda. They said they couldn’t replicate the issue but they replaced my steering rack and GB. There’s a day and night difference in how much smooth my steering is now compared to before.

I was just notified by Carfax that there is a recall on my 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback 2.0L 6-speed manual. :
  • Manufacturer Safety-related recall issued
    • NHTSA #PENDING
    • Recall #SJS 2022-25 Civic EPS Grbx Greasing Saf Rec
    • Status: Remedy Available
  • Locate an authorized Honda dealer to obtain more information about this recall
I contacted my Honda dealer who said they would order the part and notify me when it arrives.
I have not noticed any issues with the steering, but I am pleased that the part will be replaced. The car has 3,000 miles on it and is just a few months old.
