Am I the only one who thinks the rear camera on the Civic is horrendous? Coming from a recent Toyota that had an excellent rear camera, this one in the Civic is massively distorted (it makes my two car garage look like a one car garage). I've tried both the rear views and they are both really bad.
The 2022 Honda Civic rear view backup camera resolution is less the 5 MP. I believe they installed a 1.3 MP and it is just as bad as you said. What was Honda Thinking? 6 MP is the minimal I would have and 10 MP would be great.

Believe the 2022 Honda Civic rear view backup camera is less than 5 MP resolution, likely 1.3 MP. Minimal should be 6 MP and much better would be 10 MP. Shame on Honda using a terrible low resolution camera. I think it cost Honda maybe $25 for the lousy camera as they cut corners and raise prices. Check out your Sway Bar underneath your new Civic, it is made of Plastic, not aluminum or steel. I do hope everyone purchased Honda Care VSC.

Agree here. I'm a photographer and the camera is definitely lacking, but it's just fine for its purpose.
Just fine is not good enough. Do you prefer to have blurry or out of focused photos and expect a customer to pay for them. Imagine using the backup camera and hitting an object. May as well send a person out next to the car to assist in backing up. A bad camera is a bad camera.

The rear view camera in my 1972 Chevy sucks pretty bad. Especially on a hot day when I got to touch the mirror to adjust it. Reaching over to adjust the side mirror can be a pain too. 💀🤯the things people have learned to rely on is baffling.

The camera is awful. Bought a 2022 RAV4 earlier this year and was expecting a camera like that in the Civic, and was blown away by how bad it is.

but, It also works fine! I can see. It’s grainy and blurry but I can see and it’s functional. I don’t see how you can hit things using it, tbh, it’s not like the super early day rear cameras.

i think the reason why it’s so awful is because it makes an otherwise decent build quality car feel like it’s way cheaper than it actually was.

That is one thing I never really noticed, it seems to do the job as intended for me, I rarely look at it for more than a few seconds, and the car has all of the sensors I need to keep from doing damage. I will take a closer look next time I use it. It hasn't bothered me.

In the same boat with you. Driven plenty of other vehicles with plenty of other cameras, they aren't meant for high detail you should look where you are going anyway...
It also appears to sense vehicles just fine and give the appropriate beeps and signals to let you know, it is doing its job

I also have the Si, I don't know if the different trims come with different cameras so maybe I have a different one than some of the complaints here.

Also some mentioning the distortion, if you don't like the mode its in have you tried the other settings? I prefer the default but there are I think three different sort of "fish eye" settings you can change how the field of view looks

Any recommendation for a dash cam? Pictures of it installed?
Why would you bother with dashcam at all. As per some industry insiders video chip is made by very few companies/factories in the world (2 in total?) and sold to different 'big brands' who just stick their name to it. All test confirm that so called 4K are garbage and the best you can some 1080 video quality not good enough to clarly record license plate even at 3-4 or less meters while moving.

Just get good smart phone holder, stick it on windshield or dashboard and off you go. Get some good 'dashcam app' or just Sygic app (it has 'dashcam mode to record clips of your selected length) and you get all-in-one - handy phone for calls, SMS and dashcam.
I tested taking video holding phone in a hand and video is just better than any 'dashcam' I tried.
Shame my Accord's dashboar is not smooth plastic so I have to stick holder to windshield.

I have a Kingslim D4 front/rear camera, and while it claims to be 4k and maybe to your point it isn't, I do not know. But what I do know is that it is clear enough to record plates (unless someone is really flying past me). These photos from it are compressed because of moving them from off of my phone after downloading them but even so you can make out the plates.
A lot of people probably don't want to bother having their phone mounted and plugged in killing the battery recording a whole drive. There are dash cams out there worth it.

Very decent pictures. I will look into your dashcam. Thanks for posting!
Quick look - it cost about $80 (front only). Not bad!!!
Sorry didn't have a rear pic handy to upload but I did get the one that also has a rear camera. The picture is not quite as good but still solid, I recommend getting both as being rear ended is common

I haven't found a rear camera to be necessary, really. As long as you can show that you stopped and driving normally, the cops will accept that. It doesn't matter if the driver was distracted or any excuses they made -- rear ends are typically the fault of the person who hit you. The only thing you need to prove is that you didn't reverse into them, which with a front camera you'll be able to do that easily.

I just got a 2022 Subaru WRX , the camera seems pretty similar to the Honda Civic one, both seem adequate to me, no complaints. Maybe not super high quality but they work as intended and both have rear sensors which are important to me for safety reasons.

That's a fair point, I have yet to need the footage from either car for any reason (knock on wood), just always assumed I guess more definitive footage was better to have. Even knowing this I may have decided to get front and rear anyway, not too much more expensive, not terribly harder to wire and now it is set up.
A side point though too is I think you can run the front camera as higher quality (more pixels/frames) if not running a back camera, I think this is due to the write speed onto the memory card

Another huge issue I don’t know if it’s because of where I live but I find that the camera is always getting filthy very quick due to most likely to placement but the camera quality can use a whole lot of improvement I was trying to find like maybe a cover or lens protector of sorts to see if I could prevent dust and water caking up on the lense but have no luck
