Greetings!
Ive had my 2022 Civic Hatch (Sport Touring Manual) for a little over two weeks now. Just about to break my first thousand miles with the car and decided to check the oil tonight after getting home from work. This is my first brand new car, but not my first Honda with an orange dipstick. I am having a hard time reading but I’m pretty sure the oil level is low. I’m going to check again before leaving for work tomorrow morning before I decide to add to it. It’s definitely above the minimum mark but not at the max mark. I’m not seeing any leaks anywhere as the car looks pretty dry. Are there any chances the car came under filled from the factory?

Be careful, the dipstick is really hard to read when the oil is clean. When I got my car I thought it was low but it was just hard to read on the dipstick. Pull out the dipstick and clean it and then re-insert it and then pull it out to read it, some people try to read it on the first pull but that can often be inaccurate.

My car has not burned a drop of oil since new , I have about 2000 miles on it now. Look at the dipstick in bright light and turn it back and forth in the light to see the shimmer so you can accurately gauge the level. You can check it cold in the morning but always compare it to a hot reading to be sure, a few minutes after hot shutdown.

Im hoping it was just the lighting and I’m wrong 😅. I’ll try and check tomorrow at work on my lunch too since it’ll be in direct sunlight. Just hoping it’s not actually low on oil. Not empty so it won’t be the end of the world but still worries me since it’s new. Lol, you got the hard to read part right, between the oil being clean and the orange dipstick, it’s almost impossible to read.

Wait a good 5-10 minutes after you stop the engine to take the reading.

I also like to remove the dipstick and set it on top of the engine for that period of time; this allows any oil blown into the dipstick tube to drain back down into the pan. Sometimes it's hard to get a good reading when the dipstick is getting dragged through oil coating the inside of the tube both ways.

It also is hard to see the oil level when clean / new.

I'm sure it's fine.

Mine is getting much easier to read as my oil is darkening now, but early on it was hard to read. My oil level is pretty much at the full level still. You are not likely to lose oil from a leak and it won't burn off that much so I'm betting you should be between the mid way mark and the upper full mark.

Well, all is well! Was beginning to think it was burning oil. Glad I didn't add any last night haha. It is right at the full mark when I checked this morning. I thank you all for your suggestions. It helped checking in direct sunlight, too. Just broke 1,000 miles this evening on my way home!

I recall having the exact same issue early after getting my car, I thought the oil level was low from looking at the dipstick and thinking I had to add some oil, I was a bit panicked that it looked so low. Then I cleaned off the dipstick and re-checked it a couple times. Checking it in bright sunlight and looking for the oil shimmer helped identify the proper level of the oil. After that the oil darkened with use and is easy to read now. After my oil change it will return to being hard to read again for a bit.

Definitely a moment of panic thinking it was low on oil. I have an appointment with the dealership tomorrow. Check Engine Light came on this afternoon. Had the codes scanned, Got a P04F0 and a P145D. Since it's EVAP related, I am not super concerned as the car drives fine but hoping the dealership can find something (and fix it). I am LOVING the car. Been a while since I've driven manual but it's quite fun.

I have about 500 miles on my new Civic Sport. I saw you reached a grand. I'm told about a thousand is a good time to do first oil change because break in has occurred and fresh oil is now needed. Soon me too. 😉

Almost to 4,000 miles and haven’t changed it yet! It is starting to get a tad darker. Since I’m reaching almost 6 months of owner, I’d like to get it changed in June.

hey guys, 2022 Sport Touring Hatch owner here:)

New user here… I got a little worried because I smell fuel in the dipstick. Also, it’s higher than Full. See pic (sorta hard to see, but I drew an arrow to the level reading). I’m thinking oil dilution. Thought they fixed this?? Thanks in advance!
Ps. What are you guys reading for oil level?

Welcome to the forum @RR89. When did you start noticing the fuel smell?

What he said plus I've found that is waaay accurate to check oil levels overnight, this has been also commented to me by carshop personnel. The reason why never stays with me but I don't really have to understand it... I hope ;)

@RR89 did you reach out to your local dealer about it? Would be great if they can get a tech to take a look.
So Honda service had a tech look at the oil and gas smell with me… agreed that there was a smell and offered to do my first free service but I declined and just said I’d pay for a drain and fill, told them I didn’t want the smell in the garage and worried about the dilution causing long term issues...
They got it done and took my credit card number, and will talk to service manager to see if they can warranty or charge me for it. Would be about $60. The oil now has only a faint smell of gas, much better.
