I don't have a problem with the camera either. It's as sharp of an image as any other backup camera I've ever had. The only one I like better is in my wife's nissan as it's also got the Birdseye view from above that shows you the entire car, great for parallel parking or just positioning yourself in a regular parking spot.

Another huge issue I don’t know if it’s because of where I live but I find that the camera is always getting filthy very quick due to most likely to placement but the camera quality can use a whole lot of improvement I was trying to find like maybe a cover or lens protector of sorts to see if I could prevent dust and water caking up on the lense but have no luck
If you're getting it really dirty you would just get a cover really dirty too

Gets pretty dirty quickly for me as well, mostly in the winter. I have a bottle of quick detailer that I use when I'm in between washes and find some bird poop on the paint. A couple sprays on the lens does the job.

Doesn't annoy me unless I'm in a tight parking space and needing to use the top down camera view, which isn't often since I have no issue parking a bit further from where I need to go to avoid people bumping into my car. Otherwise, mirrors are just fine.

Man I’m 35 but I feel like an old man reading people complain that their backup camera isn’t high enough resolution
My current mazda 3 doesn't even have a backup camera so once my civic arrives I'm thankful for any camera. Same with blind spot monitoring. I feel like nowadays people rely on it so much and think it is needed.

I’m not complaining about the quality of the backup camera on the new civic, but I will say that the resolution was much better on my ‘21 Sentra. I just would have expected something a little better on the Civic being that it’s in the same class as the Sentra and costs about $3,000 more. The Civic is better in a lot of ways, the backup camera not being one.

I always thought the quality of the backup cam was pretty good and did the job for the price point of the car. Other newer vehicles I’m regularly in VW, Lincoln, Ram seem to be not far off if not the exact same quality.
When it comes to a dirty camera. Anytime the roads are a little wet the camera gets dirty. I always keep a few microfiber towels in the car but worst case scenario I just wipe it off with my finger

Years ago I came very close to running over my son while backing up, I was very lucky that my wife yelled out to me to stop me from moving the vehicle in reverse. That vehicle did not have a camera, and I always said that I would never drive another vehicle without a back-up camera, I got rid of that SUV quickly after and I've had a camera on all of my cars since. They are very important safety devices. There have been people in my hometown who have run over their children in reverse and the children were killed, it gives me chills down my spine just thinking about it and my situation.

Auto-braking that is now offered is even that much better too, fantastic safety devices that only have to work once to be appreciated.

Any recommendation for a dash cam? Pictures of it installed?
If you want a full featured system with with online notifications while you're away from the car my recommendation and what I use is Blackvue. Just understand if you want all that is offered it will cost you. I use the DR-750X+ 3 Channel with the LTE connectivity module.

I 100% agree with the op regarding the backup camera. I also honestly believe the ones saying its fine and it does its job have never used a better camera before. My 2014 Mazda 3 GT had a way better camera than my new civic. People accepting subpar products are the reason we have to deal with these issues in the first place. If my other car, which is 9 years old, can provide a much better experience with a clear and crisp picture then it is unacceptable to me that a new product does not match or exceed it. The civic backup camera is garbage.

The best backup camera I have owned by far was the motorized one on my Golf R. The actual video quality was average but it was always perfectly clean due to the camera always being tucked away when not in use. As far as the Civic goes I have seen worse rear cameras so it doesn't bother me that much. The glare at night is not ideal but not a deal breaker for me.

I still look over my shoulder when backing up. I suppose just habit from driving a long bed truck giant f250. Especially from 1996 it doesn't have any cameras.😅 I've seen people back up looking in the rear view mirror trying to judge it. They've obviously never read what the side view mirrors say. Objects in a mirror really are closer than they appear. It baffles my brain how some folks even using a backup camera with distance detection . They still managed to hit stuff 🤷‍♂️. Toyota may have a better camera but they sure don't have a better engine. Laser clad valve seats with port injection and direct injection in that four banger corolla. That's a big no thanks for me not a fan of that FKS engine. I don't even want to think about Nissan. When I do though I think why can't they just pair a good engine with a good transmission. It's always one or the other you never get both.
