Which is quieter- EX or Touring?

just a caveat on my part after writing what I did above….my touring civic is one week old purchased in August in Georgia…so hot here…...once I turned down the a/c fan..yes, the tires were noticeably noisy. Imagine without the extra sound insulation!….i also own a 2022 Acura MDX which of course is super quiet so I just consider this is a civic that has noise like a civic….but what a nearly perfect car! Love it. I will live with the tire noise (and non cushy ride )

If u look at the full specs, only the sport model has wheel resonators to quiet the noise….does anyone have any insight on this ?

…and btw, the sport and touring have the same tires specific to these models only so for some reason the touring lost out on resonators Even though the car comes at a price premium ( note that the two models have different alloys and not sure if this factors in for noise but I wouldn’t think so )

The sport probably has less sound deadening material (if any) compared to the Touring. The sport maybe doesn’t have an acoustic windshield either?

Since hearing of noise complaints I've been racking my brain trying to figure it out, as my Si is the quietest car we have ever owned, my wife tells me that all the time and she is very picky about noise. We just traded in our 2020 Subaru Impreza top of the line sedan and the Civic is quieter than the Impreza, and we always found the Impreza to be quiet. I am running snow tires on the Si right now, and they tend to be noisier than summer tires in general, I have not driven on the OEM wheels /tires yet since buying the car, and not until spring. Maybe the Bose stereo is helping out, along with the windshield, but it really is quiet cabin IMO, not sure how it compares to the sport and touring, or the hatch.

If anyone is curious I have the 22 hatch sport touring. I used my Apple Watch to get some decibel numbers in the car.

50-58 decibels on low speed 30-45 mph on good road

60-65 decibels on mid speed 45-50 decent road quality.

67-70 decibels highway 70-75mph on newer road.

71-72 decibels on highway at 70-75 on old but good road.

Coming from my 19 crv this is much quieter. The crv on same highways was usually around 77-79 decibels.

I still won’t call the car quiet. I’ve been in some Lexus cars that put it to shame. But it’s certainly in a good range for the civic.

I am actually impressed because 90% of the noise is tire transmitted. When I’ve been on the highway and need passing power I actually barely hear the engine. And normally cvt engines scream pretty loud when you hit the gas on the highway. There’s a little wind noise at high speeds but pretty quiet.

All numbers with no radio on or any interior music.

I own a 2022 Touring and was not satisfied with the Good Year Sport tires. In Las Vegas they were noisy and because of the 40 sidewall profile on the 18" rims, I was feeling every crease in the road. I spent the money and changed to Michelin Touring tires which eliminated most of the noise and improved some of the ride quality. Since I was still not satisfied with the ride, I changed to 16" wheels and a 55 sidewall profile. I have increased gas mileage but have to corner more slowly. The ride quality now is what I am used to from my previous Hondas - have owned Honda's (Accord and Civic) since 1976. I would have thought that Honda would have softened the Sport suspension and tire/wheel combination for it's top of the line Touring model. Other than that, I love the car.

Could you provide a reference on "the touring model for the 2022 civic has included with that package extra sound insulation and noise isolation materials ", please? I am very sensitive to cabin noise and would like to know which model to consider.

I have a Sport Touring hatch which comes with the Continental All Season tires. Probably a tad quieter than the Goodyear. I think a lot of the road noise just has to do with how much (or how little) sound deadening material they have used in the car. It's certainly not as quiet as a lot of other cars.

I test drove the Touring and found it very quiet compared to my other trim test drives. There is quite a bit more sound insulating material used on the touring trim. I wont actually have my car until July, so I can say I am driving daily. However, I could tell the difference in the touring being less road noise. When I say quiet I mean good quiet for the price point, its not Acura quiet, lol. Tires do make a huge difference and 18’s arnt cheap, so Id ride those out and live with the extra noise, you’ll be buying new ones soon enough. just turn up the Bose a notch.

Which trim is the quieter ride? I've seen a few reviews that suggest the Touring is the quietest trim of the 2022 series. On this forum, I have seen comments about loud road noise on the Touring.

2022 and 2023 Civic Touring supposedly has some sound-deading material installed. But I am unable to hear any difference in my 2022 Touring having less noise. All Civics are noisy. Honda has avoided or ignored resolving noise issues with the Civic because they are cheap and adding more insulation throughout the vehicle costs too much. Also, none of the Civics have comfortable seats after 1-hour of driving/ riding ouch. Best to buy some seat cushions. If you are taller than 6 feet, your head will hit the headliner with a cushion. The rear seats are very uncomfortable compared to the front. Best to get the new Accord or HR-V. Maybe an Audi A4 if you can afford it.
Forget the Hatch, sedans are better for family. Be sure to get the back and side windows tinted as the sun gives a lot of glare.

My Si was super quiet until I switched to the OEM Goodyear tires for summer use, and they are the source of the noise issues IMO. My Si was very quiet on winter tires and winter tires tend to be noisier than summer tires, but the Goodyears are terrible. Looking forward to swapping my winters back on soon. The car is very quiet the tires are not.
