I never owned a civic or driven one but my dealership has me down for the next sport hatchback that will be coming in shortly. Such a beautiful car but I can’t stop worrying if I’m going to like the CVT transmission. You see, this will be my first CVT. I’m sure I’d be able to test drive it before buying, but I just like to know what you all think about It.
Thanks.

It is my first CVT and is unique and has it's quirks for sure, but I'm happy with it. My last car was a 2002 Accord LX with 4speed AT.
One thing that I noticed off the bat was the "rubber band" effect when slowing down or at seemingly random times. It feels like your car is bobbing back and forth (front to back) for a quick second at lower speeds (it's likely happening when the CVT is changing between ratios or engaging?). It also takes a bit longer when shifting from park to reverse (and vice versa)for the CVT to fully shift, so if you try to step on the gas to fast the CVT judders for moment before catching. Last is the "single" gear when gunning it. It's a little unnerving to just here the car constantly at top RPMs in full throttle without shifts, but that's just CVT things.

Anyone else feel the same way or not experiencing what I am?

I have a Touring with paddle shifters and honestly, this CVT has been great for daily driving. The high revs and droney feeling are only there when you floor it to pass, but I skip that by tapping the paddle shifter and dropping a "gear". Makes quick work of the passing and reducing turbo lag.

I've never owned a CVT before, but I've driven several rental cars with them and was never a fan. Honda has done a great job with this one though.

Thank You so much for your comment’s about CVT transmission’s but I now feel less reassured and even more worried after reading them. I’ve heard a few people mention the “rubber band effect” which I’m just not sure I could get use to even though Honda supposedly makes a better one then most.

Before my 2022 Civic I had a 2010 Nissan with CVT and kept it 10 years, never had an issue with the CVT, over 100k miles. Wife has a 2018 Nissan with CVT and about 40k miles, no issues there either. So far with the Civic I think the tranny feels a little more solid than my Nissan, so I don't expect and issues here either.

It's really all about maintenance with Hondas. My wife had a 2016 Civic EX that had the 2.0 litre CVT with 100,000 miles and it ran like new. Those really had the rubber band affect but the new ones are setup so much better that it drives very much like a regular automatic transmission. Honda also makes a great manual transmission, but you will probably have to order one to get it.

If it was a case where you prefer manual transmission trannies over automatics then I would say there is a chance you might not like the Honda CVT. Some manual transmission enthusiasts never seem to like auto trannies, I don't know if that applies to you.

But if you don't have an issue with automatic trannies in general, then I would say that you will be fine with the Honda CVT. You really won't experience any negative aspects of the trannies, they build in simulated shift points and the paddle shifters give you a lot of control. They will feel very efficient once you drive them for a bit, almost like a sequential transmission might exhibit. If you are okay driving an automatic tranny you will like this one.

It's my first CVT vehicle I've driven. I thought it was strange at first but the longer you drive it the more comfortable you get. I've been driving around in Sport with the paddles and it's not bad at all for daily driving.

Don't know why this thread came back from the dead but before my 22 Civic Touring I had a 2014 Subaru Outback with a CVT, 150k miles and no issues at all. Never even did any maintenance on the 'tranny'.
