windshield washers....grrr.

Found the first thing that I am not really happy with on the Civic.

The windshield wiper washers. They are the type that are mounted to the wiper arms and instead of spraying...they just release the juice on the pass.

Trouble is...you can't time the release to get a splotch of bird doo. It wants to shove almost all the juice over the edge of the windshield. I'll bet I used 1/4 or more of the reservoir this am just for one spot.

It's almost like it's impossible to get the fluid released close to the bottom. It wants to release at about the half-way swipe...and then it gets shoved to the very edge of the A pillar.

I know...It's a trivial problem, but it's all I could find so far.

I don't know why they use those systems, my Subarus have them as well. With any washer spray system you need to flood the entire windshield to get a good cleaning, rather than just a lighter spray for spots, flood it up and down , if that doesn't work then you need to use some elbow grease at the next stop.

Can’t hit the cars behind as badly I’d expect.

Use RainX or some sort of repellent spray/paste even a wax or ceramic application works well too so the bird poop and dead bugs come off easier.

As for the wiper design. Simply put, aesthetics. The fact that you can't change the wiper rubber anymore and you have to buy a full blade replacement sucks. Hopefully aftermarket makers will have cheap adapters soon.

Agreed! It only seems to release the washer fluid at the top of the stroke! no matter how hard you try to at the bottom of the cycle. And it sprays at the top part of the blade so what is the point!? I love most everything about the car but the washer thing is aggravating.

I do use RainX all the time. Maybe if I tell the birds to only poop on the top portion of the windshield.

The nozzles are attached to the blade, the wiper rubber appears to still be changeable

Whoever was in charge of locating the nozzles...did a very poor job.

I'm curious as to why you think that? I feel like the wipers do a good job of cleaning the windshield when i use the nozzles.
The spray doesn't get to the bottom third of the glass.
hold the lever for a longer period of time. you'll get that bottom 3rd eventually, unless you're doing 80mph on the highway lol

have to try that, but not while going your version of 80
I had a Renault Alliance, 1983 or 1984 model year I believe, which had the best windshield washer system I have ever used. You could spray the windshield WITHOUT turning on the wipers, so the fluid could do it's job for as long as you wanted. When I first used it I thought all other manufacturers would soon copy it and build a similar system. Alas, almost 40 years later, I am still waiting.

On the road early today....bugs are out like crazy. Going 50 mph, I decide to try to clean the smeared bugs off.
Put the wipers on slow speed and pulled the arm back for the washers and held it there for a full 30 seconds.

90% of the juice went to the top third of the windshield....and then off the A-pillar.
The bottom third was hardly hit at all and remained with dead bugs. It was wet but only slightly.

Terrible design.
Almost emptied my washer reservoir for a few bugs....and it still didn't work right.

When the juice is only released at the half-way height....there is no chance for it to get the bottom part with the wipers running.

Yup! Back in the day I think most cars functioned like this. Separate control for washer and wipers. I have an old mustang that does this too.

Yup. Honda needs to offer a fix but I don't know how they would fix it. Replace the wiper arm with a spray nozzle on both the top and bottom of the blade maybe?

I need to look at it closer....but I think if the nozzle was located lower, the whole windshield could be hit by using slow or fast speed. I don't know.
Like I said in the first post...It's the only thing I could find to bi**h about!

Lol. Same. Just keep your windows clean and hope for no bugs I guess! But yea, there isn't anything other than the wipers that I don't like. So far, super happy with my new EX.

I'm not saying this will fix it but I am genuinely curious why you turn the wipers on before squirting the windshield. Hold the lever for more than a second and the wipers start moving on their own...

Have tried before and again today holding the lever before starting the wipers.....same results.
If the washer pumps out a half cup of fluid....maybe a teaspoon hits the lower part of the windshield...the rest gets shoved off the side with the first wiper pass.

Try it on your new SI and report back,
