What type of "driving" is hard on a CVT?

Ive always been told 0-20mph you should be gentle. Over 20MPH do whatever you want. I have a friend on a 10th gen civic, CVT, full bolt-ons tuned doing 280-288HP average and hes over 30K miles into his tune and does WOT near weekly. Seen quiet a lot of people report zero issues with CVT and 250+ HP tunes. They dont like being floored from a stop..and when tuned you try to favor torque limits.

I also, myself, stay gentle until 20mph or so then let things rip and enjoy induction/intake sounds followed by wastegate sounds. Everywhere I go..everyday. But I never floor it from a redlight/full stop. 30K miles on the car, basic tune, pending more mods.

50/50 i drive paddle shift just to toss RPMs up high occasionally.

CVT tech has definitely changed a lot. My Chevy Spark ( 2014 ) CVT was sealed and there was no maintenance for changing CVT fluid because you couldn't. I had 200K miles on that car and the CVT didnt give any issues, it actually died because the cam shaft lobes wore down, and they wanted 7K to replace them...

My 2014 CVT spark vs my friends 2013 manual spark, side by side we've done a few drag races because my manual enthusiast friend insisted CVTs suck, and he could never out-run me. He was always noticeably way behind and got so pissed. Either sucks at shifting or CVTs i guess do keep torque constant.

I do drive my car in sportmode most often as it feels like its a lot more peppy and less lag on throttle etc. It does keep the rpms higher, especially on the highway. If you want to lane change, normal mode has a ton of throttle lag, while sport has the rpms held at like 3500 or something up there and it just goes.

Yeah I floored that car, there was no waiting to 20mph. Theyre 80HP and when flooring it to get onto the highway, your lucky to hit 60MPH by time you have to merge. 0-60 was 13 seconds. They didnt have the HP to break the CVT, thats for sure hahahaha, cute little 300CCA battery in them etc.

Going from that car, to a 11 gen civic, feels like I bought a Ferrari, as far as my experience is concerned. Getting to 70MPH far before the highway merges was the most thrilling experience after enjoying the panic a chevy spark is, for over 8 years...people honk at you and its like SHES FLOORED BRO xD
