Just earlier when I was driving I was forced to come to an abrupt and hard stop and I slammed on the brakes hard. Does anyone with mechanical knowledge have an idea what potential damage could have resulted if any at all? The thing is I heard and felt a grinding noise when a slammed down on the brakes. Could that have done any damage to my car? Thanks in advance if you have an helpful feedback.

It wouldn't have done any damage. If anything it might have made some faint marks on the rotors. Like Cleanneon98 said that's pretty normal sound feel for abs when it kicks in. Marks on rotors won't be there long however after a few commutes. If the whole thing felt weird you might have been feeling the collision mitigation braking kicking in also. Meaning the car would have attempted to stop itself maintain a straight trajectory which is a weird experience if you've never experienced it.

In 2018, in my 2016 Civic EX-L Coupe, on the NY State Thruway, running with traffic flow at 70mph, an accident occurred about a quarter mile in front of me.(a truck lost it's entire rear axle assembly with wheels/tires) The whole thing was bouncing and tumbling towards me, had heavy traffic on both sides so couldn't Dodge. ONLY option was a full, pedal-bending brake application. This was before sensing and just had ant-lock brakes and stability control, luckily a decent set of relatively new Continental tires. The full white-knuckle panic stop actuated both the anti-locks and the stability on dry pavement, stopping about 20 feet from the axle. Sounded like I was running over plastic toys, the Civic just stopped, no loss of control or drama, no damage, brakes were fine, continued my trip without any issues. For a while, I thought an underwear change might be a possibility, but the Civic handled as it should, it was, ultimately, a reassuring event, knowing how well the Civic performed. My only concern was that someone behind me couldn't stop that well.

That's one thing it took me a little while to get used to. The brakes in this car they're insane they stop really quickly. Especially compared to some of these other vehicles we got. Touchy too especially with new pads just barely hit it and you come to a jolting stop it's even worse at low speeds. I like it though got to be able to stop I feel pretty safe in that car. I don't know too many others I can say that about for cars anyway.
