I know the gas mileage is really bad. I was told by the Honda dealer it would get better after 500 miles. I'm now at 700 miles and the gas mileage is no better. It is even as low as 5 mpg in the city, but does better on the freeway. this is brand new HYBRID. It also has a faulty "Info system" that Honda says needs a "factory reset" but has no way to perform a "factory reset". I have been told by the dealer I can't return the car. It appears the only option I have is to sue them. That is crazy. This was stated as "the best" new car by more than one source that tested them. I don't know what to do.
Any real suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you saying your car is getting 5 miles per gallon??? So you can only go 50 miles before the low fuel light comes on?

Your mileage is much much better than mine but you are in warmer climate. My average after 700 miles is only 25mpg and I have had to fill the tank 6 times. Not what I bought this hybrid for

On a lark I decided to fill the tank, put it in SPORT mode and drive it like I stole it to see how low of an MPG result I can get. I have literally been struggling to get it under 40 (I don't want to get a ticket) So I don't know what to say, there are thousands of these things on the road now not to mention they've been on the roads in UK, EU and Australia for more than two or three years and there is one guy on a forum who I guess has to drive uphill in a raging snow storm at night both ways to work and back each day. It's hard to figure. 🤔

I'm sorry I have put 700 miles on the car and have filled the gas tank 6 times. I does get 26 mpg on the freeway.
I’m sorry if you’ve already answered this but I’m not going to go back 5 pages…

Do you drive in Sport mode all the time?
Do you have a lead foot?
What is the temperature/weather in your area?
Do you regularly carry sacks of cement in the trunk?

yes I obviously have a Lemon but there is no way to prove it and Honda denies there is any problem. The lawyers say I have to keep taking it back to the dealer for 3 months. I have already missed $10,000 in work (I'm an MD and keep having to reschedule patient over and over)
and the dealer knows that is due to having to bring the car in to them but they can't figure out what is wrong with it so I am missing work for no reason.

I'm sorry I'm having a hard time believing all of this as the story just seems to get bigger and bigger with so many unrelated details but on the slim chance that you're legit let me ask you this: have you had the recall inspection done on the high pressure fuel pump? Because if it were leaking well, that could be the problem. It would mean you are that one guy out of ten thousand but hey, somebody's got to be it.

Is it just me or has this thread run right off the rails? 5 miles per gallon? The cat wouldn’t last the day with that much fuel running through it, let Alone a hybrid. Troll perhaps?
Definitely something fishy. Heck, my Pilot is averaging 18 mpg in town between tank fills!

I just finished a little round trip overnight between my home and a friend in Richmond. This is precisely a 66 mile trip each way with about 50% stated 65 or 70 mph highway and 50% local 45 - 55 mph back roads.
I kept the speed a the posted limit on the highway. On the secondary/back roads I was at 5 mph over.
At the start I had about 940 miles on the odometer.
I got 44.7 mpg according to the monitor on a FULL tank of gas and just a couple stop lights.
So, the engine break in is finished - even current model corvette engines are released from performance constraints after 500 miles.
I expect to see spot on "highway" mpg at the end of February when I drive the solid 750 miles from my home to Savannah. Thats a full 700 miles at 65-75 mph.

If you live in a warmer climate - like Florida, Arizona and Southern California you wouldn’t be having this issue.

Having been a previous Prius owner (I believe I owned 4), a Honda Insight and now a 2025 Civic hybrid, I don't think I had any unrealistic expectations. I know how to work the hybrid system to give me the best mileage. The only expectation I had was what was claimed on the window sticker, that it has a combined MPG of 49. I would have had no problem with a few miles per gallon less than this in the winter, as that was also what happened in my other vehicles, but 10 and up to 19 MPG less than what is listed on the window sticker is absolutely ridiculous. The last time I was this upset with a vehicle was when I was stupid enough to believe Hundai's claims that the Elantra would get 40 MPG, which was also a lie. I actually got some compensation from them because of that. The only consolation is reading all the posts here that I am not the only one experiencing this, but it seems to me that Honda is probably aware of this. Sounds a lot like false advertising to claim this and not deliver. It shouldn't have to be work to get what they promise from a vehicle.
