I don’t think sport mode changes the steering response at least in non-si models. In the manual it says enhances the throttle response as shown in the specs. It doesn’t mean they don’t have variable ratio rack though.
Mode based steering is usually reserved for special models. I can’t find Si specific manual so not sure if they have it.

I think my original response for the sport mode was to someone who said putting the car in sport mode makes the steering issue worse, which I couldn't understand since my understanding was that the sport mode has no effect on steering at all, at least in the Civic.

Just want to add one more thing to clear things up. I think we got variable ratio and power assist tangled a bit. Variable ratio is a more related to the gears in the rack and pinion which somewhat serves a similar purpose for the steering feel. Although our discussion was mostly around EPS and its assist in steering the car, Civics have variable ratio on top of EPS. Everything we stated holds true still just variable ratio needed further exploration and explanation
