I have a 22 hatch, my brother in law has a 22 sedan. Having had just bought a house and done a bunch of renovations, I can confidently say that unless you're doing Uber rides to the airport and need the luggage space for bags specifically, the hatch is far superior for most people most of the time. The ability to easily load and unload and stack taller items was awesome. Big shop vac in a box, no problem. 65" tv in its box, no problem. 5 gallon paint buckets, heavy boxes of tile, it eats it all, with room to stick a 5 foot santa doll at the same time. Was able to move all of our table lamps stood straight up in boxes, and had room for other things as a result of not having to lay them down. The biggest problem with the sedan is the short opening for the trunk, its wide but not tall so you really can't fit a lot of the things I was able to in there, and some of the larger stuff would not fit through the door to put on the folded down rear seats either. The only stuff I had to borrow a car for, were for an IKEA trip with a big dresser and a king size bed, the boxes were just too long to fit, and the extra 4-5 inches of the sedan would not have been enough to fit them either
Here are a few photos of the different loads we were able to pack:
