Hitch or Roof Racks?? Help!!

21096 Views 41 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  aplews
I just picked up a 2022 Civic Sport and looking for immediate ways to carry my mountain bike. I called Yakima and Thule about roof racks and they said they don't have any that fit the 2022 Civic yet. I also looked into install a hitch and again ran into same issue. Just trying this forum to see if anyone else was successful finding either of these components that worked or have a creative short term or long term fix to hauling a mountain bike/bikes. Thanks for the help!!

Welcome to the forum @Fuelsrock.

You can get a custom hitch installed at U-Haul. Another option if you don't need the space, is to just fold down the rear seat and lay the bike flat throughout the trunk and the seat back. I've done this with smaller gen Civics with ease.

BTW, add your vehicle to The 2022+ 11th Gen Civic Owners Registry :)

Welcome to the forum @Fuelsrock and congrats on the new Civic! What kind of mountain bikes are you looking to carry?
Hey @Fuelsrock I just spoke to a friend of mine who's serious into biking.

Here's what he recommended.

Trunk mounted:
Bones 3-Bike Trunk Car Rack

Roof mounted

Thanks for the welcomes! I called a couple of hitch companies local and they said that a aftermarket hitch doesn't exist right now. I was looking for some tribal knowledge to see if anyone had a creative work around that would provide a quick fix. I ride a Santa Cruz Megatower which is bulky and tends to gets dirty. The hunt continues! Thanks again for the replies!!
No offense, but you should have thought about it in advance. I started looking for a Thule fit kit to move my roof rack from the old Corolla to a gen10 last year, with expectation that it will be used starting this summer, found one on eBay in the spring, and I just checked - no other has been offered since. Of course that's in part because Thule stopped supporting my towers, but I've been using their racks for a long time, and buying in advance is a way of life with them.
For now - get an old blanket to protect the trunk, or a cheap trimmable rubber liner, and carry it inside.

It’s been a minute but did you end up finding a solution to carrying your bike? I took a gamble and learned that Draw-tite 24954 fits the 22 civic just fine. No modifications required. This is the same model hitch that fits the 10th gen civic. I can’t speak for fitment of any other brands but the bumper bar bolt pattern lined up perfectly. Same cutout in the bumper cover too
Yakima told me to check back in December for their towers and fitment specs. I already have cross bars, bike racks, and box, just need the dang towers to swap everything over.
Thank you for posting this, had the same questions. Also have a big mtb. Hopefully roof racks from Thule/Yakima get released soon, I see that Honda USA offers a roof rack factory option, wonder who makes those? We can't get them in Canada.

Could you post a photo of the hitch all installed? Curious how it looks.

Here’s how it looks. Just the square tube at the center of the bumper is visible. The rest of the metal supporting the hitch is hidden behind the bumper. The end of the hitch is just about flush with the back of the bumper

Was wondering that as well. Thanks for asking and welcome to the forum!
Which Civic model did you get, or will be?

A Honda hitch cap would be a nice way to finish it off when not in use.

This is awesome news as I'm also an avid mountain biker. I put a hitch on my wife's Tiguan because I was so smitten with the 2022 Civic. Who installed your hitch please? Also, what do you mean by cutout in the bumper cover? Thanks for any help.

Agreed, it has been working well with my hitch mount bike rack to cart around my bikes. I installed the hitch myself, but I'd look up a qualified trailer hitch installer if I didn't have the tools to DIY it. Since there's some interest I'll post a write-up for the DIY. There are no instructions yet that I could find for the 11th gen.

You do have to cut a small rectangle about 2.5"x3.5" from the plastic bumper cover directly where the hitch sticks down from the cross beam. The cutout is really only noticeable if you were underneath the car and looked up at the bottom surface of the bumper.

This is probably the most useful thing I've seen on the internet this week. thanks!
Would we expect the hatch to be compatible with the same Draw-tite 24954 hitch? Seems like is fits both the 2021 Civic, 2021 Civic Hatch, and 2022 Civic Sedan.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t fit, I believe the only fitment issue was the center exhaust on the 10th gen hatch
