It'll be a lot of owners since the 1.5t is in a lot of Honda/Acura models. Just google "honda engine lawsuit". Stock, Honda could otherwise claim that the modifications were the cause.

Gone are the days when Honda was known for their reliability. They shouldn't have dropped the K24 just to appease the EPA.

Small displacement, turbocharged, direct injected engine, on heavy CRVs and high performance cars is a terrible decision, from reliability standpoint.
Hence, I went for naturally aspirated, port injected K20C2 engine found in 2024 Civic Hatchback sport 6 speed manual.

Really keen to see how this goes. From my pre purchase research, the 1.5t head gasket is more commonly an issue on the larger vehicles (accord and CRV). And seems to be an inherent design flaw with how tiny the contact surface is between the cylinders. Unclear to me why civic si pushing out more power than the accords don’t seem to have the issue as much, but I suspect it is due to fewer Si models being made.

I still went with a 1.5t civic. My theory is-yes there are some design weaknesses in the engine. But with TLC, and high quality fuel it should be a very small chance for an early gasket failure. I hope Honda will offer free repairs if they fail under a reasonable time/mileage, they risk losing a lot of loyal Honda folks if not.

The fact is, all versions of the 1.5t and all current K20 engines have machined slits in the deck between cylinders which reduces clamping surface on the head gasket. But the 1.5t engines are having the most failures by far.

Possible contributing factors COULD be: repeated high loads at low rpm (excessive throttle position), weak or loose bolts allowing head lift, factory engine management system has tuning that isn't ideal.

BCauto has hinted that the heavier vehicles tend to have blown head gaskets more often. The Civic has the least.

I talked with a friend who is a Honda tech. Problems with the 1.5T:

Oil dilution
Head gasket
Fuel Injectors
Total failure

He felt the injectors were the most common. They are seeing more and more of the total engine failures, but he believes a lot of those are from people not following up on Oil dilution & Head gasket problems.

I followed his advice, and got the 2.0NA. Otherwise I'd have gotten the Touring.
