I went ahead and did a break in oil change at ~2200 mi and was convinced I wasted my time when I saw the oil come out a clear shade of burnt orange. However when cleaning the drain pan I found a decent sized metal flake.
You can ignore the dirt, it was probably in the drain pan to begin with but no reason any metal should have been in there.
I'm sure one piece like this is harmless as it must have been caught in the filter or was just sitting at the bottom of the engine but it's nice to know I got it out for good.
Curious if anyone else noticed anything on their first drain?
