So I have a 2023 civic sport sedan yesterday while getting back in my car after pumping gas I put my foot on the brake and noticed it did not move. It was stiff so I still proceeded to hit the start button and it told me on the dash hit brake pedal push start. I was already doing that, but the brake pedal was not moving, so I let off of everything again wouldn’t start took my foot off the break. Hit the button all the lights on the dash and everything came on like normal. Long story short the brake pedal did not budge one bit. I had to get out of the car and start with the key fob and then everything was fine could possibly

I've had a similar issue but not while the car was on the ground. When I did my transmission fluid change and had to let the car run in its gears the brake pedal refused to go down and I kind of had to force it. Its likely a security thing where the car may have thought you weren't hitting the pedal or maybe you weren't in your car?

Does it work like normal right now? If the problem continues then it could be a problem with your key fob or some other electronics in the car. Are you still in warranty, this stuff would be easier to just have the dealership handle.

It works fine now I have an appointment at the dealership Friday but every single time I have to take my car to the dealership I get the same answer. Sorry we can’t duplicate the problem so we don’t know what to tell you so I was kind of trying to avoid wasting more time doing that if other people have had the same problem. Lol

It sounds like the brake lost vacuum boost and that’s how hard the pedal is to press with no assist. If you put your full body weight into it, you should be able to put enough pressure to start the engine next time and unless it’s failed catastrophically it’ll build vacuum boost right away and you can use it as normal. Obviously this could be dangerous if it lost boost while driving and you struggled to brake so keep an eye out for that but it sounds like you’re bringing it into the dealership anyways which I think is the right move.

Yeah software glitches are really hard to replicate. I have one with my head unit where it occasionally fritzes out and restarts itself.

I think you'll get the same answer as last time for this too, next time try to record a video for them.

What your experiencing is normal because when the engine is not running there is zero vacuum brake pressure which can result in a "hard brake" pedal when press the brake pedal several times when the engine is off. Don't press the brake pedal multiple times when the engine is not running and you will not have the issue you are experiencing. Also you don't need to press the brake pedal all the way down to start your car. All you need to do is press the brake pedal slightly. If you need a good reference point on how far to press the brake pedal to start your car press the brake pedal until you here a clicking sound in the shifter.

It was the first time i put my foot on the brake pedal to start it when it was stiff !

Did you experience this "stiff" brake pedal when the car was on or off? If the brake pedal is working normal when the car is running but when you press the brake pedal when the car is off and the brake pedal feels "stiff" then you must have pressed the brake more than once while the car wasn't running. Pressing the brake pedal multiple times needlessly while the car is off will cause a "stiff" brake pedal.

I don't know how far you push the brake pedal to start your car but you don't need to press it all the way down. When you press the brake a certain distance you will hear a clicking sound in the shifter. When you hear this clicking sound you don't need to press the brake pedal any further to start your car.

How many times has it happened to you? If it is just a one off then I wouldn’t worry. Everything in these cars is electronically controlled. Sometimes shit just glitches.
