(TLDR: Visited Honda Plant; cool to drive Civic back to where it was assembled.)
Tuesday, I drove about 300 miles in my ‘22 Civic Touring. Michigan to New Tecumseth, Ontario. It is here that Honda assembles the CR-V and the Civic sedans.
I was fortunate enough to have a meeting at the plant for work. This was quite special though — driving my car back to the very place it was built.
Unfortunately, we were focused on the CR-Vs, so I did not get to see the Civic assembly first hand. But, thinking about the hands and machines that put together the very car I drove to get here is special.
Of course, we all love the good things about our Civics, and (this being a forum) we love to complain about the not-so-good. But as I sit here in the Honda HCM Plant 2 cafeteria thinking about the visit, seeing the hard working folks with white bibs and green Honda hats breaking for lunch, I can’t help but think it’s quite an incredible thing the existence of the machines we drive around every day; the engineering that was put into their design and manufacturability; the steps taken from thousands of loose parts to a reliable source of transportation.
I suppose there is a reason why people love “driver’s” cars. We take them for granted less when we feel more connected to something we spend a ton of time with. I like to think Honda makes cars people want to drive — this forum seems to be a testament to that. This trip will certainly add to my driving experience with my Civic; miles behind me and many more to come. Thanks!
(Also, I drove through a proper winter storm on the way back to the States — the Civic was an absolute champ even with all-seasons
