I did some research for this previously and I read that to use Android auto wirelessly, it was available only with the Highest trim (Touring). All other trims LX, EX, and Sport, you will need to connect through USB cable.

You can still use bluetooth to listen to music, but the visuals on the car infotainment screen will not show album art, and you will need to manage searching for artists through your phone, which is okay for me, not sure if that works in your case. Generally, I only connect through USB when i want to use Google Maps, and view it on the screen.

What about for iPhones?
Someone else asked that question a few months ago and did not get an answer. wireless CarPlay adapter suggestions

I do not have an iPhone, but I hope that there are (or will be) similar options for wireless connectivity.

I am sad on how many in-cabin features are missing from the EX, and requiring the highest trim level. I was not expecting to have all the driving/engine/handling upgrades that the Touring has; when I noticed that the EX was missing HomeLink and wireless AA/CarPlay, it did not make sense.

I have an AAWireless adapter that I bought a few weeks ago. (Got it because the Motorola MA1 is always sold out everywhere.) It works fine. Plugs into the USB port, and with a couple of steps on the AAW app, it is connected. It was $90 shipped. There might be better options, but I appreciated the ease from beginning to end. (Note, there was an upgrade for the AAW unit right out of the box that is important. Given that the upgrade was just a couple of clicks as well, it is only notable because it needs to be done, not because it is difficult.)

It does allow two phones to be remembered, but it will only be active on one at a time. Of course, it is trivial to unplug it and just use wired for any other phones.
