Wow. After I first got my car I masked up everything and used a spray on black mat "Hyper-dip" (newer version of "Plasti-dip") but it started to peel over time so I ended up taking it all off using an orange oil based paint removal product. Time consuming and in the process I ended up scratching parts of the chrome. Now I was going to try the pre-cut vinyl kit ($30 a pop) but after seeing your reply I might hold off. Can you recommend a flat black paint? Now I'm thinking of going that route. You really helped change my mind.
ive had really good luck with plasi dip on rims but it will not hang on the chrome ..ive tried it on other cars..like yours it peels really easy-- used krylon fusion satin black get 2 cans-- kind of pricey but it works and matches factory blk pretty close and has really good adhesion to the chrome--after you get every thing masked up wipe everything down with 91 % alcohol several times to make sure its really clean
then wipe it again with a CLEAN micro fiber rag or something that has no lint or you will have a mess with dirt/fiber specks all under the paint--wipe in one direction to wipe lint off-- KEY to getting it clean
start with light coats all around wait a few minutes then recoat lightly repeat until you are satisfied with the coverage light coats will prevent runs/sags which will look like ass !!
let it tack up but not dry before you remove the tape--completely dry may rip or peel...i used 3m blue masking tape low tack 1/2 to go around the curves then went over that with 3/4 to stick the masking
plastic to TA-DA perfect paint job !!if you have anymore ??? my e mail is
[email protected] good luck !! btw--its easier to mask under the 1/8 inch rubber strip then trying to tape one the rubber
doesn't wanna stick to the rubber
