The heartbeat of any Si is the engine and Honda has made changes to the power band of the Civic rather than giving it more power.

According to the Honda press release the updated VTEC 1.5L 4-cylinder engine has 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. Peak torque is available from 1800-5000 rpm, which is 300 rpm sooner than the previous cars. Peak power is at 6000 rpm with a redline of 6500 rpm.

Honda has given the new Si a new single-mass flywheel that's 26% lighter than the dual-mass flywheel in the previous Si. Honda claims this will give the engine a "snappier throttle response."

The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission that will get the same rev-matching that's in the Type R!
