The Civic Hybrid already exists, it's just called the Insight.

It should be getting a refreshed for 2022 as well because the Civic chassis and interior is changing and so it too must follow.

What Honda is hinting at is the HRV Hybrid, it's a complete redesign of the HRV body and interior and it's already been announced and shown off in Japan and the UK. It looks fantastic and it has the similar interior design language as the new Civic will have.
They will probably also be looking at the minivans and trucks for hybridization as well but they don't buy those in civilized countries so they have nowhere to show it off but the US.

Welcome @delfinom! You might be right, the HR-V did well enough throughout 2020 but I think the Civic likely it. Prius sales were doing so good that Toyota didn't need a Corolla Hybrid but they did it anyways and sales are decent so far. Honda probably took notice.

You ignored the point, the Civic Hybrid already exists, they named it the Insight. You can already buy the 10th gen Civic based Insight right now. Seriously, they changed the body panels slightly but it's the 10th gen civic chassis, and the interior is 95% the same except for the Accord gauge cluster replacing the Civic gauge cluster, and the Accord Hybrid button shifters.

They say they named it Insight to "target an sophiscated driver" unlike the Civic ;) But the fact is they made Civic Hybrids in the past and they were absolutely awful, they no doubt wanted to separate the branding or you'll have car reviewers minging about Civic Hybrids having problems 15 years ago.

Honda could still go forward with an actual Civic Hybrid for 2022+ for anyone that wants a hybrid in different packaging. It would be a good A/B test to see what works in todays market with hybrid sales being so strong. Although it was 5 years ago, the 8th gen Civic hybrid existed in different market. What it will also mean is a sportier hybrid than the Insight.

And now a Japanese magazine is saying that the hatchback is a hybrid-only car.

They could rename it again but there's literally nothing to get excited about really The Insight is already an mini-Accord in styling. The new Civic is also literally an mini-Accord in styling.
Now tell me there's an EV Civic and that's something interesting.

The Hatchback being hybrid makes sense because Honda has committed to dropping gas cars in Japan and Europe by 2023. They won't be annoucing new gasoline car gens in either of those two markets at all.

an EV Civic would be interesting but compared to the rest of the industry Honda seems to be dragging their feet with EVs. Which is interesting because from what I've seen the Honda e in Europe is a great car.
