What are your design preferences for wheels? What do you prefer in regards to:
  • color and finish
  • spokes (fat or thin; 5 or many more; mesh)
  • lips (flat, step, none; polished or matching the face)
I don't like the stock wheels on my 2024 Civic sport for 3 reasons:
  • I hate black wheels
  • I hate thin spoke designs
  • I prefer a concave face or dished step lips
Shortly after I got my car I bought a set of Tesla Model 3 Aero wheels for a good price.

I like the offset and step lip. I do not like the color and thin multi-spokes. So I looked for ways to make the wheels meet my preferences:

Attempt #1: I bought a set of stock Tesla wheel covers. I painted 2 gold and sticker bombed the other 2. I didn't like how it turned out, so I didn't use the covers.

Attempt #2: I like the design of Tesla Model S 21" Arachnid wheels, so I bought a set of wheel covers that copy the design for 18" Aero wheels. The covers are black, so I painted them silver. Unfortunately the spray paint came out gray. I wanted a lighter color. I like how the covers are concave like the wheels. I'll roll like this until I find wheels that meet all my preferences.

The wheel covers remind me of the wheels on my previous car: Hyundai Genesis Coupe stock 18's. I wanted the spray paint to match this color.

Before the Hyundai I had a Scion tC on SSR Professor SP1's. Those wheels met my preferences: 5 fat spoke, dished/concave, step lip.

Question..what lugnuts are you running for the tesla wheels? Im running the new tesla photon wheels..still debating what covers to get. The aero and photon wheel covers are non interchangeable.

As far as wheel preference, someone pointed out that i apprently like twisting spoke wheels.
Heres what we run on our cars:

I guess my preference is dark color, likely gunmetal, twisty style..lol. but i do appreciate stock wheels from other cars on other cars.

Does Protoge5 have 2nd gen Mazdaspeed3 wheels? The fitment is really good! I had RX8 wheels on my ex-wife's Mazda3.

I'm using short conical wheel nuts I had left over from a set of wheel spacers. The conical lugs I used without the covers are too long. Looks any factory-length nut will fit under the covers.

For Tesla Model 3 Proton wheels, I'm only aware of the optional factory cover. Maybe Ebay and Amazon have aftermarket options. Mine are aftermarket.
Yea its a mazda p5 with rx8 2nd gen wheels. My project mazdaspeed protege had rx7 wheels, which went nice with some semi slicks:

Ty for the link, ive been browsing and the aftermarket covers have been getting made now for the photon version of wheels so just debating what design to get. Pretty much most of the aftermarket aero wheel covers are getting made to fit the photon wheels now is what it seems like.

Why not powdercoat or polish the Tesla wheels? Good looking concave wheels are always hard to find for a fwd unless you go to large wheel diameters.
I don't like the wheel design regardless of color or finish. I pejoratively refer to that wheel as "chicken feet" because the spokes are thin and boney. Not worth the cost of powdercoating or polishing. Reminds me of the saying: lipstick on a pig. 😆🫣

I basically don't care about the looks.
If they're light, strong, and reasonably priced, I'm for them.
Long availability history is also good, in case I need to replace just one in the future.

Love my GramLights 57DR I have currently. My other choice in wheels would've been an OG set of Bronze TE37s or the Advan TC-4. Big fan of 5 or 6 spoke wheels. Bronze wheels with the white car just looks good to me and I don't care if people say "everyone does it" lol

I did see someone on either this forum or the other Civic XI forum with the Work Emotion ZR10 and I really dig those on Civics. Looks really good with gunmetal spokes with the machined lip.

The Advans look good, but I don't like how the spokes protrude out past the lip.
This video is a good comparison of the Advan and GramLights.

I prefer simple unpainted 5 spoke designs. I think gen8 wheels were great, and I really like current touring wheels that look like 5 spokes. I absolutely hate angled spokes and generally dislike overdone designs. Tesla covers are yuck, IMO.
