In my view the maintenance monitor systems in current vehicles is pretty good. In the 7th generation of corvettes the first oil change was very early. In the current 8th gen it is now much farther out from the first in service date. Oils are better today. I assume the factory fill is synthetic vs. dino. I plan to go at least to 20% life left before I get my first free change. Then I'll use Mobil 1 or Castrol syn.

Pretty sure all 0w-20 are full synthetic these days
Manual says to use "Honda Genuine Motor" oil 0w20. Also says you may also use synthetic motor oil. It appears Honda has a 0w20 motor oil (Brand is Genuine Honda) that is not synthetic, or at least, makes no mention of being synthetic. Part number is 08798-9022. That makes me believe the factory fill is not synthetic. Kind of odd, especially for a 2025 model. I wonder what Honda service departments normally use for oil changes?

It’s full synthetic, Honda factory fill is very good stuff heavy on molybdenum. What you get at your local service department depends on who they have a deal with but it’s usually to maximize their profit.

I'm Just quoting what the user manual says. "Use Honda Genuine Motor Oil" with no mention of synthetic. And, there is a 0w20 non synthetic Honda Genuine motor oil. Do have info that states the factory fill is full synthetic? (I would assume it would be full synthetic, but based on everything I'm reading, it suggests otherwise.)

If your anal about a clean car , as am I, I don't see how you can run dirty oil 🤔, even if it only "looks" dirty
the reason you're changing the oil as frequently as you do is, like you said, "your anal".
i have removed oil from an engine (not this engine) for sample or level correction and had it "look dirty" as soon as a few hundred miles. that's just reality.
new oil looks translucent. used but still clean oil looks black. very dirty oil also looks black. if you waited until you could smell and feel burned grit in the oil, it is far too old, but if you just change it as soon as it looks dirty, it's too soon.
the maintenance minder will prevent you from going too far over, but it can't do anything about you wanting to take your oil out early and powerwashing it :p

How can you take pride in your car if it's circulating dirty oil ? Why clean the outside other than the glass so you can see ?
Synthetic isn't magic, gets just as dirty as any oil, "oil breakdown" is a different story and Synthetic rules there, but dirty and dark is dirty and dark, man up and do 5k !

Everything I’m seeing leads me to believe that oil is about 2 decades old and probably not offered anymore, but you can call and ask your dealer if you’re curious. There are forum posts dating back to 2000 with this, and yea at that point there were definitely less Synthetic oils

Honda now sells a Full Synthetic, and an Ultimate Full Synthetic. That’s it AFAIK

My oil in all my vehicles has never "looked dirty" after a few hundred miles, usualy 3k before i notice any color change... and I go way back on oil changes, like 1970's , not sure how your getting so much dirt in there 🤔

Could you point me a location WHERE Honda has manufacturing plant to 'create' Honda 'genuine' oil? I did not know Honda is in an oil manufacturing business...
I am sure they buy it in bulk, add little bit of salt and pepper and call it 'genuine Honda oil'. Your recipe might vary.
AFAIK Honda brand oil comes from Conoco-Philips and is formulated for their demands.

And this company produces very high quality stuff. Kendall is one of their brands. I found a customer service contact method to get info on the factory fill oil. I expect an answer in a few business days. 99.9% sure it’s syn from the factory.

I'm sure they don't manufacture their own oil. My guess: a rebranded oil (Quaker State or whatever) Just marketing hype.

You're determining your oil is "dirty" by appearance alone? And oil that "appears dirty" will not lubricate the engine sufficiently and cause excessive wear? If that's the case perhaps you should change your oil every 1k. 😉.

How motor oil color affects performance. (Hint: It doesn’t).
Oil analysis is the only surefire way to determine if the oil has reached the end of its service life.
Absent oil analysis, it’s best to follow the oil-change recommendations in your vehicle owner’s manual or on the motor oil label.
The recommended service intervals for AMSOIL products are based on extensive testing and backed by thousands of data points spanning decades of real-world use.

What Causes Black Motor Oil? Is it a Bad Thing?

MYTH: When motor oil becomes dark, that means it's time to change it.
This is not true. You cannot determine the life of motor oil by looking at its appearance since it may change color for several reasons. To ensure the best quality product, the best oil change tip is to always follow your vehicle’s owner's manual guidelines for oil change intervals.

No auto mfg produces their own oil. They Determine the spec and have an oil producer make it. Chevrolet partners with Mobil 1 for corvette. Your gas comes from a distributor that blends in the detergents per the spec that the majors set and delivers it to their stations. Gas is gas until it’s blended.

People trying to justify running dirty oil is insane to me, as I've stated, I don't care if it still lubracates, it's nasty looking and full of damnit, at 5k and it has to go ... I don't like dirty, smelly oil , whether my car can "handle" it or not ...

I REALLY HOPE this mentality isn't on the Type R forum, the thought that someone is driving around in a car like that, waiting on an idiot lights to tell them what to do is ... I guess I keep forgetting the generation gap...
