Hello I ordered this carbon fiber hood with a fiberglass skeleton backing from Kevmannz and it arrived damaged. It has a dent, deep scratches, defects and the front is splitting apart. If it was just imperfections I’d understand, but it’s completely useless so I contacted him and he offered a replacement hood. I inspected the replacement as soon as it arrived and unfortunately it came with some of the same damages, but this time it was splitting from the top of the hood. I told him about it and he suggested I diy fix and glue it together and a partial refund of $300. I said I don’t think that’s fair cause what if I attempt to fix it and within time water and air get in the vents and separates it even more. I feel it definitely compromises the integrity of the hood and is a safety hazard if I were to take it out on the road. I wouldn’t want to be driving with it, for it to lift and cause an accident damaging my car or harming others. It was 15% off and I paid $1,186 for it and I’d only be receiving $300 back and 2 hoods that I won’t be able to use. I told him I’d rather a full refund. He said he can do $750 the price of the hood. He’s been responsive and tried making it right, but I don’t want to lose $430 on nothing. I’m not sure if the damages were due to the shipping carrier not being cautious or if it’s bad quality from the manufacture. However, it’s not my fault and I paid a lot of hard earned money for it. Should I accept that and just move forward as lesson learned or make a claim to receive what I fully paid. This is my first time dealing with something like this and would appreciate the help on how to proceed. Thanks in advance

If I were in your place and I received a product that was damaged and I disliked it, I would've never asked for the replacement in the first place. I would just ask I be refunded and that I be given a place to send the hood.

If a sellers first solution is to have you repair a broken product that's brand new, then it's their fault.

As a sidenote, I've never heard about this guy and I'm also gonna bet unless he fully refunds you, that getting what you want out of this will be difficult.

Never heard of Kevmannz until now, but based on what I've found they're mainly out of Thailand/Malaysia so more than likely the hood was originally shipped from overseas and never inspected when it reached their "US location."

A full refund would be ideal, but a company telling you to fix it yourself is a bit of a red flag. If you can only get a partial refund try to get the max they are offering and maybe take that money and find a shop near you that works with carbon fiber and see if there is something they can do to salvage it. I'm all about DIY, but when it comes to things like fiberglass or carbon fiber, I'll leave that to people that actually know how to work with those materials.

Overall this company just seems very iffy, besides telling you to fix it, I have 2Gigabit download/upload speeds and their site takes forever to load anything or won't load at all. Also other Civic forums like the 8th and 9th Gen forums, I've seen posts saying steer clear of them if that gives any indication.

As nice as it is to have carbon parts, I'm all about the smaller dress up pieces as I probably won't be too upset if I run into issues or I break them, but if its a big piece like bumpers, hoods or fenders that's just too much money to possibly loose if there's an issue. I guess its lesson learned. Sucks this is happening, hope you get it resolved.

If you bought it on your credit card, call the credit card company and see if they will reimburse you for the issue. A lot of credit cards have several benefits like these; then on their end they will fight to get the money back from the vendor. I AlWAYS buy expensive items on credit cards because of these types of benefits.
