So after having my Civic for almost 4k miles, I finally made the switch yesterday and reverted to traditional cruise control. This implementation of ACC in my specific car is the worst out of Toyota and Mazda and Hyundai that I have had in the past. Way too many phantom brakings going on.

I could take it to the dealer and have them “try” to replicate it but it just isn’t worth leaving it with them for them to put miles on the car to experience it, and then fuck around and do whatever they think they can do to “fix” it. Pass.

It’s just so much easier to use regular cruise control and cancel and resume as needed.

I've only had 2 phantom brakes from the ACC and I could completely understand why (mistook car in another lane for one in front bc of the angle of the road). Was kind of hard to get used to, Id like controlling the CC myself since the adaptive one is kinda jumpy.

I have never liked adaptive cruise control, aka radar cruise control. My wife's last few Fords have had it, and while it works well enough, I just don't like it. And the OP is right - Honda's is not great. There have been several times the system was tricked into braking when I was going downhill and at the bottom, the ground suddenly goes uphill again.

I should note I do have my system set to the medium follow distance. Maybe if I set it to a closer following distance it would help. Anyway, I use the system often but I still don't love it. I should probably just turn it off. I'm an attentive enough driver to see when I need to cancel cruise control or brake myself.

How do you disable ACC and revert back to "traditional" cruise control?
I've experienced these "phantom" braking events in my 24 Touring and they are extremely aggravating.
Car on and parked, turn on cruise control. Then turn it off. Then hold the set car distance button for approximately 2 seconds. It will beep and you will see the CC icon turn on white with the arrow at 11 o’clock.

It will stay on regular cruise control until you do the same process to get it to go back to ACC.

I don’t seem to be able to turn mine to normal cruise. I had a phantom brake that scared me, I think it was picking up a car in adjacent road (slight bend in highway, certainly not a corner). It braked hard for a second, then resumed. Luckily the car behind was not tailgating.

How do I know if it was the ACC or the collision mitigation braking that was the culprit? Both were on. I had a feeling it was CMBS in my case.

I’m not sure if this is a part of the ACC but I was on the interstate and the speed limit was 60 mph then 70 mph. So, at the 70 mph sign I pressed and held the “Resume +” button until I got to 70 mph. Then I let go of the button and it did something that no car that I have ever owned with cruise control did… it kept on accelerating and before I knew it the car was going 85 mph. I cancelled the cruise and turned it off. Now, in the immortal words of Ernie Klump, “was that supposed to happen?”

Everytime you hit the + or - switch, the car will accelerate or decelerate by 1 mph. If you hold the button for a certain amount of time, the set speed will start going up by either 5 or 10 mph hour increments, I don't remember which one for sure. Next time I drive my car, I will try it again and see what it increases at.

Next time you are in that situation, tap and release the Resume + switch up 10 times and the car will accelerate to 70 mph on its own. No need to hold the switch.

I wouldn’t even hit the + 10 times. Just hit the gas to 70 and hit set.

When I tap the + or - the increments are 5 mph, not 1 mph.

My first ACC experience was 2015 Subaru Impreza. It was impeccable, but I couldn't stand the CVT, so I got rid of it.
Now, I have '19 Fit EX and '24 Civic Sport Hatch, both manuals. Honda-Sensing(TM) is a lousy driver compared to EyeSight(TM), but I'll use it anyway. I mostly know its bad habits, so I just account for it. It's good to be paying attention anyway.
Almost bought a '24 WRX, because they finally implemented EyeSight(TM) for manual transmission, but well, K20C2 won me over.

Per the manual: pressing the RES/+?SET?- switch once speed is increased/decreased "about" by 1 mph, holding the switch down increases speed by "about" 5 mph.
Yup, that's how both my Honda's work. 1mph per click, and 5mph increments by holding the switch down.

Subaru was backwards. Each click moved it up/down to the next 5mph increment, which was actually nice since most of the time, I wanted to set it to some multiples of 5. To do 1mph increment, I had to hold the switch down, which I rarely used.
