So initially when I bought the car new, it did not make this sound. Probably 2 months or so after, I noticed a clicking sound when ever I activated the turn signal and then initiated my turn. Along with this issue, there was also a squeaking issue with the signal wand. It would squeak when you rubbed it gently in either direction. I took in the car to have it checked for both these issues, and they ended up replacing the turn signal. This solved the squeaking issue, and also the clicking sounded much better.

However, another 2 months or so rolls by, and it starts sounding progressively worse just as before. I take the car in again, and this time they tell me that's just a normal sound it makes for this gen, and the tech took another Civic out with the same mileage on the lot and it made the same noise. (which, looking back on it, does not seem believable, because almost every time I went there they tell me they have no Civics on the lot to compare to it.)

I've done a lot of research online, and I found some articles regarding a clicky steering wheel, although the problem seems different than what I have. I would think everyone would have this, but from my study it would not appear to be so.

I will attach a clip of the sound it makes in the post. Thanks for reading.

A click when engaging and disengaging the turn signal is normal. The signal makes an audible click when you engage it, and when you go into your turn it clicks and then clicks again when it disengages once you're done turning and driving straight again. There are some people that have an audible pinging sound in the steering wheel, but I believe that is due to the clock spring.

Fair enough, I guess I was not sure if this was something other people had or not, but that sums it up.

Although what more specifically is odd to me, is that this noise did not come on until a few months of owning the car, like it progressively got louder. That doesn't really make much sense to me. Initially it was really quiet, and then this started to happen. If the noise was supposed to occur, why wouldn't it always sound like that to begin with? It's quite puzzling.

Its a brand new car, some car parts wear in and settle so its possible it did get louder, but its perfectly normal. All cars I've owned whether it was a Honda, Toyota, or Jeep have all had the clicking when signaling and turning.

You should hear it in my 27 year old truck it clicks at the steering wheel and way over on the driver side. You can hear the solenoid ticking the whole time the blinkers on.🙂 Normal wear and tear but if the steering wheel comes off in your hand that's definitely not normal.😁
