Spoke to my dealership months ago about the sticky steering on my 2022 Honda civic touring. They said they are going to replace the steering rack on my car to fix the problem but however the part was unavailable and on back order. They are now saying that the part has now been released. I was just wondering if anyone knew if Honda did an update to the steering rack to fix the known "sticky steering" problem?

I don't think the part is any different? Or I haven't seen anything from the NHTSA investigation. I'm only at 9k km and haven't felt this yet but I've spoken to my dealer and they said they have not received any direction from Honda Canada yet (as of May 2023)?

I got a notice that my 22 civic sport sedan was recalled for the steering, and that my dealer has the parts and can schedule the work. I've not had a problem with the steering so I'm hesitant to "fix it if it's not broken".

If it's a recalled part, I would. It may affect you later on as the car gets older.

I am also experiencing the Sticky Steering issue. Finally got a Honda Master Tech to replicate the issue. he says they've seen two other instances of the same thing. They are ordering a Steering Rack and Pinion. Does anyone know if that will also include the EPS motor? Apprently Honda (and Mazda) are closer to narrowing the issue to either a bad worm gear or too strong of a spring in the EPS motor.

Just because you received a recall notice does not mean your vehicle has the defective rack or incorrectly adjusted assembled. They can't tell by the VIN number either they have to inspect it and this is how they do it. If an ambitious person wants to know if their vehicle is at risk for this or not. I suppose they could do what I did here. You can even supply that information with photos to Honda and they'll clear your vehicle of the recall. If they won't no big deal you know it isn't affected. If you were to ever go and sell it just stop by a dealer. Show them those pictures and all that stuff. If they really want to I suppose they can put it up on the rack and redo the job. It won't much matter at that point though you're selling it. All you're interested in is getting that paper that says it's been cleared of that recall.

There's two tsbs for this. I received a recall notice from the mail. The TSB number at the top right of it matches the second TSB below here. I had the dealer look at it and they said my rack wasn't part of the recall. It also showed no signs of incorrect assembly adjustment.

Just for s**** and giggles I took both of these tsbs and took a look at a friends car. It was a 2022 sport non-touring trim hatchback. I used a boriscope to be able to see this from the top of the engine bay. However if you remove the splash shield under the vehicle like you're doing an oil change it would be much easier to see.

Both of those tsbs are right here. This is an older one dated July 6th 2023. It explains which racks carrying what part numbers are affected. Sorted by trim level year.

Here is a newer TSB that supplements that one above much more in depth. It explains where to find this part label on the rack. It also details how to check the rack for correct adjustment. You basically make sure the tires aren't contacting suspension components or steering components. Note this TSB is from November 1st of 2023. As long as you supply them with the information needed and photos. There's no need to let a dealer go monkeying around in there. They can plug that information into their little pewter and clear the vehicle by using its vin.

Using this information I just checked my friend's vehicle for this condition and the defective part numbers this tsb outlines. Using the borescope here is that sticker on his rack for steering it doesn't match this TSB and his tires are not contacting anything from lock to lock. Note it has a t47 rack in it not a t21 or t22.

I have a 2022 Civic hatchback sport touring and I received a recall notice. I took it to the dealer they told me part not need be replace it, then few days later I started feel sticky steering, I took it back to the dealer and they told the part need to be replace it and they are charging me $3k to replace the whole thing, I opened a Claim to Honda because the letter said if the part need to be replace it will be for free. Still waiting from Honda to give me their decision...

great, so it effects almost every single Civic built in the last couple years. can't believe they haven't issued a recall for this. Some dealers are stingy with TSBs and don't want to perform the work if they can't replicate the issue (which they probably can't if they don't drive it every day)

Yeah, they definitely should replace it for free. Thats very unreasonable for them not to when it is a known issue with these vehicles. Maybe take it to another dealership.

I was quoted 3 grand for being passed the warranty and my VIN wasn't part of the recall but it is having the same problem. Did you get it resolved?
