OK stick-shift fans, serious question: If the new Civic Type R did come with a dual-clutch transmission... would you still take the manual?
realistically, probably not. Paddles are just so much superior imo. Quicker shifts, no risk for potential miss shifts, faster up and down shifting and both hands are always on the steering wheel for maximum control. I personally think the stick shift is needed more for the Si more than the TypeR. The Si is Quick and Peppy and Sporty with just enough limitations to spark aftermarket creativity and the TypeR will find anything it can to shave off time. Those are my views :D

Honda making a DCT for the Civic isn't the craziest thing either. They've been doing it on their bikes, ATVs and side by sides for a little bit now. I know it's not the same thing but still it's not completely new to them. Maybe they learned a couple of things from their stint in F1 to bring over to the Type R.

Well said.

DCT will also help the Type R to be more fuel efficient.
Although it won't matter much to us, to Honda it will as keeping MPG numbers where regulators want it becomes challenging.

I would daily the Type R and see that as a benefit for +50% of my experience that will be in traffic.

I always get shit on by fellow enthusiasts when suggesting the Type R and Si should have both manual and automatic options.
Forget them. First up the Si is in no way hard core enough to warranty a 6-speed only. I love it, but it's not a GT3.

Second, a DCT would be fantastic. I have to think a DCT Civic Type R would be 1.5 - 2.5 seconds a lap faster around most tracks. If you want max performance, DCT is pretty damn amazing.

I hate so called "enthusiasts" that always try to dump on everything new. Especially when most of those people will never but a Type R. Offering both transmissions makes the most business sense for Honda and it satisfies both kinds of drivers.

At the end of the day it will come down to whatever Honda thinks will help them reach the widest possible range of people and I think both options on the Si will be a great way for Honda to do that. Type R should just be DCT, even if its criminal to those "enthusiasts"

Similar folks hated the R35 GT-R for not having a manual like generations before it.

Now, no one is complaining.

People hated the 10th gen Civic when it came out and now those same people are complaining about how they like it more than the 11th gen. It's just a vicious cycle that never ends.

Its all noise at the end of the day.

EOY sales numbers will help determine how successful the 11th-gen Civic is compared to the last.

Just improvements to performance and overall driving feel should do it!

Who doesn't want a Civic under the Si that has a 180-hp Turbocharged Engine, 3-Mode Drive System with Sport Mode and Paddle Shifters to control it all with the automatic transmission version? I think that's an accomplishment in this segment.

I have driven a black '17 FK8 for nearly 30,000km and I will gladly get the DCT version, that is all.
Hey @civiccrx. Good to see someone that can still vouch for autos after coming from a really good manual. Did it take some convincing to like DCT's and other transmissions or were you open to them from the start?

Any pics of your Champ White DC2? :D

I feel like the FK8 would have been vastly improved with a DCT. To make a long story short, old school Type R's had the shift rods connected right to the shift knob. You felt the engine vibrations through the shifter not much different than haptic feedback. It feels visceral and really connects you to the car.

I am very interested in what they will release. When is the anticipated launch date?

Good point. Autos really are the way to go.
Have you driven any high performing DCT cars like the R35 GT-R or just anything higher performing than what Honda produces?
