I have a few road trips coming up, and for my own peace of mind, I like to have all the fluid levels checked before I go. In the manual, I found these instructions:

Have a dealer check the fluid level and replace if necessary.

Do not attempt to check or change the continuously variable transmission fluid yourself.

I called my local dealer, and they said they can’t check the fluid level because it’s a sealed system… they said all they can do is replace the fluid.

Anyone else had experience with this? Seems something is not lining up between what the manual says and what the dealer is telling me.

Do you have a manual tranny or CVT tranny ?

In theory, if you don't have any leaks the tranny fluid level won't be low, I would not worry about it. I've never seen tranny fluid run low in all my years of owning vehicles, it doesn't evaporate, so only a leak would cause the issue and you would see it very easily and quickly if it had a leak.

CVTs typically are sealed these days, which is annoying. Technically they can check the fluid level because there's usually a check hole, but there's no real reason to check these because leaks are very noticeable. They'd have to get it on the lift, crack open the hole, and it has to be at the right temp for it to drip out, all that just to check the trans fluid. Not worth it so they just say no.
