Those waiting for an Si version of the new hatchback will have to keep waiting. Maybe forever.

Honda Canada has confirmed on Twitter that upcoming Si version of the 11th Generation Civic won't be available as a hatchback. Instead, it will be sedan only.

This news is surprising considering that in normal trims the Hatchback is available with a manual transmission, while the sedan is not.

It's possible this news applies only to Canada and not the US. But it doesn't seem likely.

I would be pretty surprised if Honda offered two different Si's for Canada and the US. It'a odd that Honda will offer the base sedan only in automatic, only for them to put a manual afterwards for the Si. Though I think the sedan will be better suited for the Si treatment.

I guess we can assume that the Type R will be a sedan too? Or is Honda going to throw us another curveball?

We've already seen the Type R testing in hatch form... so it's safe to assume the Type R will continue as a hatch only. The hatch is more of the global body style, and other markets don't even get an Si. So it makes sense that the global Type R would have the global body style, and the NA market Si would have the NA market sedan body.

I have to agree,

I'm not broken up about this.

Si sedan is where my heart is. Type R is awesome... but I'm just not sure I'm there yet. haha

I'm with you! Sedan SI all the way.

Now the question is.. Will the '22 Sedan SI be a better performer than the '22 Toyota GR86?

These two cars are what I'm excited about these days but I can only have one...

Totally different cars.
GR86 will be much faster, better handling, etc. Hard to even compare them. Civic will be much more livable. And I bet WAY cheaper on insurance.

If the 2022 Civic Si is a sedan, will it be available in automatic?

Any info/updates?
Hi @Ben757. It's highly unlikely to be offered with an automatic transmission. The Si is best enjoyed with a manual and there's no incentive for Honda to include another option.

Plus, learning how to drive manual isn't that hard either. You can get the basics down over a weekend with guides like this:

Thanks hondapwr,

Thanks for the info, I’ve actually been driving a manual for over 30 years.
I’ve just decided that my next car is going to be an automatic, and would consider the Si if it were available as one.
Just trying to find out if there is any information that suggests the Si might be available in automatic.

I don't think an automatic Si is coming. when the Civic sedan was revealed a rep from Honda said that the Si and Type R would still be manual only.

How is A sedan not practical ? You don’t get that much more space in a hatchback you really don’t Iv actually tested that it’s more of an illusion that most people fall for.
I'm not gonna say a sedan isn't practical. But 14.8 cubes of space versus 25.7 cubes is a pretty big difference... 46 with the seats down... also, loading anything into a hatch opening is easier than a trunk. So while sedans are practical in their own right, hatches are far more practical objectively speaking, no illusions needed.

Lol I was just joking but thanks for the exact measurements.
