Dealer explained that Honda does it for every car as an added benefit in case it gets stolen.

Does everyone else have the hijacked OBD2 port with rats nest of wiring attached to a blinking box under the dash? I had to pull the box out from underneath the carpet. I think my dealer is full of it at this point.

Also, car is paid off so no it’s not a stipulation of a loan.

Good to know, thanks everyone for the dealer info. I'm going to look into this. At this point between the $5k over sticker (that I willingly paid), Check Engine Light at 700 miles, and this tracking device I'm about to investigate a way to end the deal before my first payment. Rather sad really!

Yeah that's definitely the dealer doing that, not a Honda practice. Hopefully you can work something out with the dealer. Would you look at another Civic if you got out of your deal? Or look for something else?

Without a doubt I will get another Civic! I didn't even mind paying more because it's a Honda, but it's been a very bad experience with Ed Napelton Honda. My situation has unfortunately overshadowed the cool benefits of buying a new car.

Either way I'm horrified this came from a reputable Honda dealer and no one can explain why it's there. CHECK YOUR CARS PEOPLE.
My OBDII port is pristine. I have attached things to it. I take it that means this has not happened to me, right?

Incredible, though at least you're not paying for the LoJack service, it means they just installed it (badly) and hoped you'd pay for it? Jeez.

The last time I bought a Honda from DCH Paramus in NJ, they pushed me hard to pay for some kind of VIN registration/etching on the glass as a security thing (which would have an annual fee to maintain the registration). "It is a feature we install and highly recommend to all our customers."

I said no, and they took it off the spec sheet (and the pricing), but I can see all the stickers/etchings still on the glass all over the car. They just go and do this sort of thing as soon as they unload them from the truck to every vehicle they receive, it seems.

I had a similar issue, dealer installed it on my car but I didnt pay for mark up or add ons. They left it installed and I found out because it hit the kill switch and left me stranded on my way home from the stealership.

So it triggered as you stealing your own car? The dealership reported it as stolen? What exactly "hit the kill switch"?

That's absurd!

Honestly I don't know what triggered it, test drive was well, signed everything and left with the car, stopped to get a bite and it literally was a dud. Power was there no crank or fuel pump. Had to get it towed back so they could take the POS out

It looks like you are up near Chicago maybe? If so, no big surprise about the dealer. I live near Peoria IL (about 2 hours SW of Chicago) and got my car at MSRP with zero extra BS dealer add ons. I have dealt with them (Bob Lindsay Honda) on my last three cars and they are fantastic. The owner refuses to charge above MSRP because it isn't good business and they want repeat customers. Anyway, I highly recommend looking at dealers out of the Chicagoland area. Driving a few hours to pick up a car is well worth avoiding the hassel of those huge dealerships up there.

I'm with JP Gayan. I'm guessing that the Lo Jack was something they have on their inventory to prevent theft, while the inventory is on their lot. It probably should have been removed during prep and tag transfer once it's sold? maybe they missed it during prep? I can't imagine them charging you for some aftermarket BS that ties up your OBD 2 port, and how hard would it be for a car thief, with the tech to to steal the car in the first place, to simply unplug the module, and steal it anyway?

Hendrick Honda dealers charge $1700 as an already installed dealer add on !
